USES

Growing bamboo in small places can be achieved with some effort. Bamboo culm size will increase every year using the existing plant material as a source of energy. To negate this increase of growth, selective pruning is necessary. Removing a percentage of the older culms and younger culms, the plant will not have enough energy to produce larger culms the following season. Culms should be removed by cutting at ground level. Care should be taken to not remove too high percentage of plant material at one time.

Specimen Plant

Bamboo does make a perfect specimen plant. Many varieties will look fantastic as a stand alone feature in a garden.

Screening

One of bamboo’s best attributes is its ability to grow quickly and vertical without taking up much ground space. Small plants will create a formidable screen within one or two seasons blocking out wind and neighbors.
